Pfäffikon, Switzerland, May 2026
IPGATE AG, the Swiss-based owner of an extensive intellectual property portfolio in integrated braking systems, vehicle electrification, and electric drives, today announces the formal launch of its China Licensing Program. Following a successful first engagement with Chinese industry stakeholders in March 2026, IPGATE is now making its patented technologies formally accessible to automotive manufacturers and suppliers operating in China under clearly defined, fair, and competitive licensing terms.
A Market Ready for Partnership
China is today the world's largest automotive market and a driving force behind the global transition to electromobility. IPGATE holds over 400 granted and pending patents covering technologies that are fundamental to modern braking systems, including electro-hydraulic braking, regenerative braking integration, ePedal systems, and chassis control solutions essential to next-generation vehicles.
IPGATE's March 2026 visit to China marked a significant first step in building direct relationships with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in the region. The meetings confirmed strong mutual interest and underscored the readiness of Chinese industry partners to engage with high-quality, clearly structured IP partnerships.
Transparent by Design
IPGATE has built its China licensing program on the principles of transparency, predictability, and mutual benefit. Key features of the program include:
Chinese-language website and documentation: IPGATE's website and all key materials are fully available in Mandarin, ensuring that potential partners can engage with full clarity.
FRAND-inspired licensing principles: License terms are modelled on Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) principles, ensuring equitable access for all qualifying partners.
Draft license agreements available upfront: Prospective licensees have access to draft agreements and full patent lists prior to any commitment, enabling informed decision-making from the outset.
Industry-benchmarked rates: License rates have been defined in reference to industry standards and validated in dialogue with market leaders, ensuring competitive and justifiable conditions.
Licensing Structure
IPGATE offers two distinct rate categories for the Chinese market:
Domestic Rate, applicable to vehicles manufactured and sold within China: 0.5% of net sales with a minimum of CHF 0.75 per unit for domestic use.
International / Export Rate, applicable to vehicles exported to international markets, including Europe: 5% of net sales with a minimum of CHF 5 per unit for export to Europe and other markets.
This dual-rate structure reflects IPGATE's recognition of the different commercial dynamics of domestic and international vehicle markets, and its commitment to offering proportionate and accessible licensing terms to partners at all scales.
More Than a License: A Technology Partnership
IPGATE's licensing program goes beyond granting freedom to operate with respect to its IP portfolio. IPGATE acts as a technology partner, actively supporting licensees in the integration and advancement of the licensed technologies within their own product development. Through its longstanding collaboration with LSP Innovative Automotive Systems GmbH, IPGATE can provide technical engineering support, ensuring that partners do not simply gain legal access to IP but receive the expertise needed to turn it into a tangible competitive advantage.
For Chinese OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers navigating the rapid technological evolution of electromobility and autonomous driving, a collaboration with IPGATE represents both legal certainty and engineering acceleration.
Early Bird Offer, valid until 30 September 2026: Companies that initiate licensing discussions and conclude an agreement before 30 September 2026 will benefit from preferential early bird conditions. IPGATE encourages interested OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to make contact at the earliest opportunity.
