The E120 patent family comprises six patents in four jurisdictions (DE, FR, GB, US): E120DE (DE 10 2010 022 493) with one independent device claim and one independent method claim, E120EP (EP 2 731 836 B1), also with one independent device claim and one independent method claim—legally valid in France (E120EPFR) and the United Kingdom (E120EPGB)—as well as E120US (US 9,278,679 B2) with two independent claims. A total of 6 independent claims.
The invention relates to the use of the existing, spring-loaded ABS/ESP reservoir as a hydraulic emergency buffer in the event of a blocked drive or transmission of the brake booster. In the event of a malfunction, the system can use switchable valves to direct fluid from the wheel brakes into the reservoir, thereby releasing brake pressure in a controlled manner. This reliably prevents the brakes from locking up—the vehicle remains steerable and drivable without additional components or external power sources.
Note: The German validation of the EP patent (E120EPDE) was revoked due to double patenting with the national DE patent (E120DE). However, the EP patent remains in force in France and the United Kingdom.

The EP claim is broader than the DE claim (no restriction to piston accumulator chambers or ABS/ESP association). The German EP validation (E120EPDE) was revoked due to double patenting with the national DE patent; the EP patent remains in force in FR and GB. The US claim uses the keyword FS-AC (Accumulator Chamber) with its own wording.
Six independent claims across three patents, covering the device and method for fail-safe pressure relief in all four jurisdictions (DE, FR, GB, US).

Double patenting with the national DE patent E120DE
The German validation of the EP patent (E120EPDE) was revoked due to double patenting with the national DE patent (E120DE). However, the EP patent remains in force in France (E120EPFR) and the United Kingdom (E120EPGB), so the European protection is unaffected outside Germany.
